Corporate
Cancer Retreat
The chemical company DuPont promises a bright future. A house, a college degree, and an unexpected mid-forties Tumor. The narrative of the piece is a testament to how bad it can get when unfettered capitalism reigns supreme.
In 2016, the widely renowned “New York Times Magazine” documented a lawyer’s battle against a huge corporation. Later on, this event and the drama that surrounds it was made into a film.
Since the seventies, DuPont has manufactured chemicals utilized in the production of nonstick teflon used to make frying pans. This chemical PFOA/C8 is extremely hazardous for both their customers as well as their employees. One laboratory study suggested possible DNA damage from PFOA exposure and a study of workers linked exposure with prostate cancer.
They have since then dumped the toxic chemical into Ohio River, West Wirginia for decades. Killing farm animals by poisoning the water of surrounding communities.
